Temperature is a numeric value from 0.00 to 1.00 that controls the degree of variability in the agent’s responses. The lower the value, the more consistent and predictable the agent; the higher, the more creative and varied. For most customer service cases, consistency outweighs creativity. Timely.ai uses range labels to make slider selection easier (0.05 increments). OpenAI GPT-5.x models disable the slider automatically; Anthropic models with active reasoning force temperature 1.0 via the API.
